PROJECT STORY

Centre lock changes everything about how a wheel gets built. There's no bolt circle to design around. Everything loads through one central nut, which means the hub area has to carry forces a five lug wheel spreads across five points. Porsche uses it on their motorsport cars and their best road cars for good reason, and it's also the reason most aftermarket wheel companies quietly don't offer it. It's harder, the tolerances are tighter, and there's no room to get it wrong. This 992.1 GTS runs factory carbon ceramics, so the spec had to clear the PCCB package as well. That's two constraints stacked on top of each other before anybody talks about how the wheel should look. The setup is our LP5-R Monoblock, 20x9 front and 21x11.5 rear, Porsche centre lock, finished in Satin Carbon Graphite. The face is a five spoke, and that's not an accident. It's the shape every 911 owner recognises, the one that's been on the back of that car in one form or another since the sixties. Putting it on a 992 is a way of nodding at the lineage without doing a retro costume. The proportions are modern, the staggered fitment is modern, but the silhouette is pure 911. Then the details that only show up when you're standing next to it. The rim edge is diamond cut and sealed under satin clear, so there's a fine machined band of bright metal running around the outside of an otherwise matte wheel. It catches light the way a turned edge on a watch case does, which is to say it does nothing at all until it does. The rim logos are filled in yellow. Not a yellow we picked because it looked good in isolation, but the same yellow already sitting on the PCCB calipers behind the spokes. It takes the one accent colour the car already had and pulls it out to the edge of the wheel, so the brake and the rim read as one system rather than two separate things you happen to see at once. Against a car this saturated, the graphite is what makes it work. A bright wheel would have turned the whole thing into a costume. This one lets the paint do the shouting and handles the engineering quietly. The part we like most is the process. Watching a wheel go from a render, to something being built on the floor here, to the day it's finally under the car. You don't get that buying off a shelf. From render to reality. That's what Forgelite does. We build wheels around the car, the vision, and the person who owns it.
